AĞUSTOS 2016
NEWSLETTER OF ASSOCIATION SUISSE TURQUIE
AUGUST 2016
August is a special month in Switzerland and in Geneva. 1st of August is the National Day for Switzerland, celebrated since 1994. The choice of the date refers partly to the Pacte du Grutli or the Federal Charter of 1291, signed early August of that year by three Alpine Cantons to form a confederation; an event regarded as the foundation of Switzerland. The day is celebrated with parades and fireworks.
The second event, Geneva Lake Festival (Fêtes de Geneve) is also a significant highlight of this month in the Lemanic region. Founded 92 years ago, its first name was “Fête des Fleurs” and it was created in order to promote Geneva and to entertain its inhabitants and visitors.
This year the festival will take place from August 4 to 14. The full program of the activities can be found in the link http://www.fetesdegeneve.ch/2016/fr/programme. Please do not miss the biggest fireworks of the year on the evening of August 13!
We wish you a festival full of fun and music!

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
Solar Impulse Completed its Around the World Journey on July 26
Our member André Borschberg’s partner Bertrand Piccard piloted the last leg of this adventure which had started on March 13, 2015, more than a year ago. The project of circumnavigating the world in an airplane powered by only the sun attained its goal of demonstrating that it is possible to do a lot with clean energy. More projects are in the pipeline for the two pilot/entrepreneurs to show what else can be done.
You can find all the highlights of this adventure on http://www.solarimpulse.com/subscribe

A 17 year long project, AlpTransit Gotthard Tunnel was inaugurated on time in June. It reaches a depth of 2300 meters and extends to 57 km.
