HAZİRAN 2017
In this edition, we would like to revisit our previous and preliminary exploration of Unesco’s World Heritage sites in Switzerland and Turkey. This time, we would like to focus specifically on the terraced vineyards of Lavaux which form a real bucolic link of some 14 kilometers of trails between Lausanne and Vevey-Montreux, with stunning views of Lake Geneva as a bonus on top.
In the 11th Century, monks established the foundations for this incredible landscape; the winegrowers then followed shortly. From that point onwards, the latter have remained faithful to the region and have been continuously producing wine, including the King of the region, the “Chasselas”. Lavaux is listed by UNESCO as a “cultural landscape”, recognising the combined work between man and nature, and between the winegrower and the land.
The harmony and beauty of the site have inspired many artists. During the first half of the 19th century in particular, Aberli, the father and son of the Lory family and Weibel dedicated themselves to the art of engraving. Others such as Ernest Biéler, René Auberjonois and Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard painted an evolving Lavaux landscape and people on canvas. Joseph Mallord, William Turner, François Bocion, Gustave Courbet and Ferdinand Hodler were also among those who would wander along the lake-front capturing the light from the water and the sky with their brushes demonstrating their attachment to this wonderful region.
Today there are many guided walking tours to explore the region and taste its wines. Our association will be participating to one of these tours and we hope you can make it! More details below.

Lavaux Walking Tour –July 9 at 2:30pm
Accompanied by an official World Heritage Tour Guide of Lavaux, you will learn about the exceptional values of this “cultural landscape”. The tour will last 2h30 and a glass of wine will be offered at the end of the tour. Adults CHF15, children under 16 are free (payment at the destination)

Public Lecture – Data, devices, designs: The daring world of impact evaluations by Dr. Jo Puri -June 13 at 9am
Auditorium A2, Maison de la Paix, Chemin Eugene-Rigot 2, Geneva
In an age where international action is nearly more driven by its impact potential than its purpose, Dr Puri’s speech is surely very interesting. Dr. Puri’s talk will focus on what we are learning about effective international action, as informed by state-of-the-art methods of impact evaluation. She will discuss ways in which biases creep into our work, particularly in regards to quality of action. Dr. Puri will investigate the role of data and designs while planning and implementing international programs, and on policies that can help mitigate these biases. She will highlight how international organizations can effectively enhance learning and uptake.

Bol d’Or Mirabaud Regatta – June 16-18
Geneva
Launched in 1939 Bol d’Or is the world’s most important inland lake regatta. There are more than 500 sailing boats participating and it covers 123 km from Geneva to Le Bouveret and back. The highlight of the event is of course the start of the main race on Saturday 17 at 10am.

26th Geneva Music Festival – June 23-25 and Musiques en Eté – July 1st to August 8
Geneva
Geneva Music Festival, this rich and colourful annual event full of classic, jazz, eclectic and operatic music will kick start the musical summer in Geneva. Musiques en été will then take us through the end of the summer holidays, starting on July 1st. This year’s paticipants include Seiji Ozawa International Academy, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Geneva Camerata.

The Mozart Project – July 11 at 8pm

As part of “Musiques en été” we wanted to particularly recommend to you Olivier Cavé’s concert, Valaisian pianist, who played from Japan to the U.S. and whose records won many prizes (http://www.cave-olivier.com/biographie.html). He will be playing with Orchestre Divertissement. The evening’s repertoire is very special and will combine Mozart’s first and last compositions.

Clariant Opened a New Factory in Turkey
In particular demand from local sunflower oil refiners, Clariant’s new bleaching earth production plant built in Balıkesir will use local law material sources and particularly bentonite. The plant’s main specialty chemical product will be Tonsil and it will help shorten local sunflower refineries’ lead times.

World Famous Swiss Pianist Oliver Schnyder’s Concert Took Place in Istanbul on April 14
Oliver Schnyder really relishes coming to Turkey . After having performed in Istanbul and Izmir in recent years, he returned literally to the shores of the Bosphorus on April 14 th at Sabanci the Seed upon invitation by the foundation Istanbul Resitalleri . This remarkable top level classical recital, which was supported by the Consulate General, was attended by a large audience which expressed its gratitude with standing ovations .
